Carribean Cruise: Ocho Rios, Jamaica: May 4, 2005

In May 2005 we took a Carribean cruise. Our first stop was Ocho Rios, Jamaica! Our friends Terry & Patricia were on the same cruise so they are in many of our photos!

On the dock with our cruise ship behind us waiting to go to Dunn's River Falls.

Jamaica is blessed with water, including a number of cascading waterfalls that you can climb. The most famous is Dunn's River Falls, near Ocho Rios on the north coast. The Dunn's River falls are 600 feet long.

Ascending the falls is a crowd activity. Every group gets a guide; guides tell their groups to hold hands; and up everyone goes, linked together. I was unsure about this process at first b/c it seemed like I would need my hands to aid in the climb. However, it was actually good to hook hands b/c everyone helped you climb this way! I guess there really is strength in numbers!

There were spots where the falls had worn the rocks into slide formations. The guide stopped and let anyone try the slide. A person from the previous group went down the slide and when he stood up he had scratches all down his back. Mark was the only one that braved the slide despite this warning!

After we finished hiking the water falls we relaxed on the beach and enjoyed the scenery!

The last thing we did in Jamaica was participate in a booze cruise. Let me tell ya...that Jamaican rum is not to be taken lightly!!!
